As promised, we have more details on the R-rated Ultimate Edition of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will hit Blu-ray and DVD later this year. And contrary to the initial assumption that Warner Bros. was trying to capitalize on Deadpool’s success with a restricted version of the superhero epic, director Zack Snyder confirms that the Ultimate Edition exists more as a director’s cut — not an excuse to ramp up the violence and profanity.

There’s long been speculation about Jena Malone’s role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it looks like we can stop guessing…for now. Warner Bros. has confirmed that Malone’s mystery character will not be featured in the theatrical release of Zack Snyder’s superhero epic, but she will appear on the R-rated Ultimate Edition, which hits DVD and Blu-ray later this year.

Zack Snyder Wants to Make a ‘300’-Style George Washington Movie Because Sure, Why Not

Zack Snyder is going to be pretty busy for the foreseeable future. In addition to releasing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in March, the director is prepping Justice League: Part One before presumably heading right back into work for Part Two. That should keep him occupied until at least sometime in 2018, but what will Snyder do next? More superhero movies? Maybe. But he also has a non-DC flick on his mind, and while it sounds a bit crazy, it really shouldn’t surprise you.

Following in the footsteps of previous unlimited passes for films like Spectre and Interstellar, Regal is offering a fans a chance to see Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as many times as they want (or until their brains melt and there’s nothing left but the hollow shell of a person). There is a catch, of course: There’s a limited number of these special passes, which will allow you to see Zack Snyder’s superhero epic as frequently as you’d like during the film’s entire theatrical run.

If you’re particularly invested in the stories of Batman and Superman pre-Dawn of Justice, then Warner Bros. is about to test your devotion by offering a new Batman v Superman prequel comic — but only if you buy a bag of Doritos at Wal-Mart and surrender your fingers to bright orange cheese dust. If that seems okay to you, then you’ll be rewarded with a digital prequel story that helps set the stage for Zack Snyder’s upcoming film.

Many years ago, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller was deep into development on a Justice League movie. How deep? He had his entire cast — including Armie Hammer as Batman, Common as Green Lantern and Adam Brody as Flash — and was well into rehearsals in Australia. That project wound up getting canceled because of the writer’s strike and Justice League would lay dormant…until this April when Zack Snyder begins filming on his two-part Justice League movie. That film — starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Ezra Miller as The Flash — now has at least one major connection to the defunct Justice League film of 2008: Miller himself, who will return to produce the new version.

Thanks, Deadpool! As predicted by many (including Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn), it looks like studios are already taking the wrong lesson from the record-breaking, R-rated superhero film. While Fox has already given the green light to an R-rated Wolverine sequel, Warner Bros. is getting a jump start on their own edgier superhero offerings, as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will have an R-rated alternate version when the film hits DVD and Blu-ray.

Earlier today we learned that Zack Snyder will officially begin production on the first Justice League movie in April, and the director is already gearing up for DC’s epic superhero team-up. Snyder shared a behind-the-scenes photo from pre-production, featuring Jason Momoa and a few superhero costumes in various stages of completion — including Ezra Miller’s costume for The Flash.

Just a couple of months ago, a foreign website offering pre-sale tickets for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice appeared to have the official runtime for Zack Snyder’s superhero epic, clocking the film at a lengthy 151 minutes. In addition to confirming that runtime, Warner Bros. has released a few new character posters, giving Alfred, Lex Luthor and Lois Lane their very own one-sheets.
