Following rumors that country starlet and all-around Harry Styles-hater Taylor Swift was close to joining up with Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges for 'The Giver,' The Weinstein Co. has officially confirmed the casting, as well as released the names of the other stars populating the film.

Adapted from the Lois Lowry novel of the same name, 'The Giver' takes place in a colorless dystopia, similar to 'Divergent' in that everyone is assigned roles in the community, there's no conflict and, ultimately, no choice. The lead character, Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), is singled out to receive training from The Giver (Bridges) to become the Receiver of Memories, memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. According to EW, Swift will play Rosemary, the last of The Giver's mentees before Jonas.

Besides Streep, Bridges, Swift and Thwaites, the confirmed cast includes Katie Holmes, 'True Blood' and 'Tarzan' star Alexander Skarsgard, Odeya Rush of 'The Odd Life of Timothy Green' and 'Shameless' star Cameron Monaghan. Phil Noyce ('Salt') is directing 'The Giver' from a screenplay by Michael Mitnick ('The Current War'). The Weinstein Co. aims to start production in Cape Town, South Africa on October 7, for a theatrical release August 15, 2014.

The breadth of Taylor Swift's acting resume includes that 'Valentine's Day' movie with practically every actor ever, her appearance on 'New Girl,' voicing Aubrey in 'The Lorax' and that random role on 'CSI.' Though she was previously rumored to have a role in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming 'The Secret Service,' her reps debunked the report, leaving 'The Giver' (and perhaps that Joni Mitchell biopic in which she's been long-rumored to star) to be her chance for meatier roles.
