'The Amazing Spider-Man 3' Hires Three Familiar WritersJacob Hall |
'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' hasn't even hit theaters yet, but Sony seems to be pretty happy with what they have on their hands. Why else would they hire the writers behind that film to pen 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3'?
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the team of Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner have officially signed on to write the third entry in the rebooted Spidey universe, which should also see the return of Andrew Garfield as the titular wall-crawling superhero and director Marc Webb behind the camera.
Kurtzman and Orci nabbing another tentpole gig is nothing new, considering that they're the guys behind the rebooted 'Star Trek' universe and a couple of the 'Transformers' movies. However, this will be the second big-screen credit for Pinkner, who was a writer on 'Alias,' 'Lost' and 'Fringe' before entering the blockbuster arena. Although Kurtzman and Orci have just as many detractors as they have fans, you can't deny that these guys have a habit of delivering the goods on time and making the people with the money very, very happy. Considering that 'The Amazing Spider-Man 4' already has a release date, expect to see these three get that gig in a year or two, as well.
While that team of writers puts their heads together to crack the third 'Amazing Spider-Man' movie, we still have 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' to look forward to. The sequel, which is currently deep in post-production to prepare for its summer 2014 release date, will see Spidey face down Electro (Jamie Foxx) and will feature appearances by comic book regulars Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti). If the buzz is to be believed about the upcoming third and fourth films -- read about them HERE -- Kurtzman, Orci and Pinkner should have plenty of material to draw from for inspiration.
'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' arrives in theaters on May 2, 2014; 'The Amazing Spider-Man 3' on June 10, 2016; and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 4' on May 4, 2018.
