Though most sitcoms with a bit of will they/won't they inevitably find some contrived excuse to get its lead characters together, every so often one accepts when to back off.  In the case of 'The Big Bang Theory,' leads Leonard and Penny never worked perfectly as a couple, allowing the writers some flexibility in which idea to play with.  But with things getting increasingly awkward in Leonard and Penny 2.0, might the latest guest star be the straw that applied so much physical pressure it severed the camel's spinal column?

According to TVLine, dark days may lie ahead for TV's half-nerdiest couple, as Leonard and Penny may not be long for this world when 'The Big Bang Theory' season 6 starts next week.  Newcomer Margo Harshman has been confirmed to cause a bit of romantic strife between one of the show's couples, but it isn't Sheldon and Amy Farrah Fowler as originally thought.  According to an interview with show-runner Bill Prady, Sheldon's new lab assistant Alex actually has eyes for Leonard.

Apparently she and Leonard rather quickly begin to hit it off, forcing Penny into a decision of whether or not her renewed relationship with her onetime paramour will actually work, especially after his awkward proposal attempt.  And sure, Sheldon and Amy will have their problems keeping things together as well, but it won't be because of Alex...for now.
