Following their massive success with the Jump Street franchise and The LEGO Movie, just about everyone wants to get into the Phil Lord and Chris Miller business. The duo have proven their value with both animated and live-action features (as well as pulling off the near-impossible by making a great comedy sequel), so it’s hardly surprising to hear that Warner Bros. is seeking the pair to join the DC Universe.

Both Latino Review and The Wrap are reporting that WB wants Lord and Miller to direct The Flash solo movie, which will star Ezra Miller as the speedy hero. Rumor has it that Ezra Miller may be making a brief appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice alongside Jason Momoa’s Aquaman as WB and DC begin to lay the ground for the Justice League.

Lord and Miller are producing The LEGO Movie spinoffs and sequels, including the Batman-centric spinoff, the recently announced project from director Jason Segel and Iron Man 3 writer Drew Pearce, and The LEGO Movie 2. The pair have yet to set up their next directorial project, but if WB has their way, they’ll step in to work their magic on The Flash — and the DCU could really use talent like theirs.

The Russo brothers are currently the only comparable directing duo, and both pairs are in high demand. The Russos recently signed a three-year first look deal with Sony, and are helping to develop one of the upcoming Ghostbusters films, which may star Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt. Sony still reportedly wants Lord and Miller to helm a Ghostbusters film after the duo passed on Dan Aykroyd’s Ghostbusters 3. Lord and Miller have worked with both Pratt and Tatum, so having them direct the second film in the new Ghostbusters franchise would make sense.

The Russos are busy finishing up Captain America: Civil War, after which they’ll direct both parts of Avengers: Infinity War. It seems unlikely that they’ll be able to direct the Pratt/Tatum Ghostbusters movie, but will likely produce and help develop the project instead. That film, along with Paul Feig’s all-female Ghostbusters, are reportedly setting up a third team-up movie which will bring both casts together, Avengers-style.

Can you imagine a film that has both the Russos and Lord and Miller behind it? For now, these rumors remain unconfirmed, and it’s unclear which — if either — project Lord and Miller will accept. They’d obviously make a great fit for the new Ghostbusters franchise, now that Aykroyd’s plans have been effectively dismissed, but they’d also bring some much-needed levity to the DCU. The Flash is the right kind of character for that.
