If you're going to cast Taylor Swift in your film, chances are she's probably going to sing. And she does a little of that in the latest clip from 'The Giver,' the new film based on the classic Young Adult novel of the same name. Swift plays Rosemary, a previous "receiver," whose time with Jeff Bridges' Giver was quite short. We're sure to learn more about why in the film, but until then, we have this melancholy new clip.

In 'The Giver,' Jeff Bridges plays the titular role of a man whose job it is to keep the memories of all the people in his colorless, peaceful community. But when he's paired up with a new Receiver named Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), the Giver pulls back the curtain on their seemingly ideal community, and Jonas starts to uncover the dark truth about his town's history.

Swift plays a former Receiver, who, as the Giver notes in the above clip, didn't stick around for long. Seems like the more someone learns about this community, the more likely it is that they'll disappear. Maybe Jonas will have better luck.

The film also stars Meryl Streep, Alexander Skarsgard, Katie Holmes, and Odeya Rush, and hits theaters on August 15.
