A few weeks ago, director Peter Jackson held an online Q&A and preview for the upcoming 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.' However, if you wanted to watch or take part, you had to have bought 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' on DVD or Blu-ray and followed the proper instructions (you know, typing in codes and such). Although the entire event remains an exclusive, Jackson has posted a six minute excerpt to YouTube, letting everyone get a taste of the what it was like and get a glimpse of the new Middle Earth adventure.

The video (which you can watch below) finds Jackson and a few members of his trusty crew hanging around an editing suite, taking questions and sharing tidbits from the next movie. Although the excerpt only includes three questions, they picked three good ones. After a question from a normal fan, they take queries from two surprise guests: mega-fan Stephen Colbert and 'Lord of the Rings' star Billy Boyd. None of the questions are of the hardball variety (although Colbert's extremely complicated question is very funny and Jackson's response is weird and perfect), but Jackson is, as always, amiable and fun, sharing nuggets of Middle Earth wisdom and showing us some concept art from the film.

We hope that the full event becomes available soon, but in the meantime, this will do quite nicely. 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' arrives in theaters on December 13th.
