It hasn't even been available for a month, but Naughty Dog's The Last of Us is already a tremendous success for the developer and publisher.

Since it arrived on June 14, The Last of Us has sold 3.4 million copies through Blu-ray and digital downloads combined. The critically acclaimed title survived in spite of having the odds stacked against it from the start. As a new IP introduced at the end of a generation, along with the fact The Last of Us is technically a horror game, no one would have been surprised to learn Naughty Dog's latest venture wasn't burning up the charts. Then again, when you have a quality developer behind such a game, anything is possible.

"These sales figures are a testament to the blockbuster quality of The Last of Us," said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios in a statement to Games Industry. "The teams at Naughty Dog are true visionaries and their storytelling capabilities are second to none, this title is an undisputed demonstration of that. SCE continues to be committed to delivering unique gameplay experiences that redefine the interactive entertainment industry and The Last of Us is a perfect example."
