Ridley Scott is quite fond of releasing director’s cuts of his films, and while there will be an eventual extended cut of The Martian on DVD and Blu-ray, you can watch one of the scenes that didn’t make it into the theatrical version right now. Released from the “Ares Archives,” the scene above features Matt Damon’s astronaut Mark Watney doing what he does best: science. And jokes. Lots of jokes.

“I’m going to science the s— out of this,” Watney famously says in the film when he’s stranded on Mars and forced to use his wits to survive until his crew can eventually come to the rescue. And “science the s—” out of it he does, but if you’d like to see even more of Damon’s character tinkering around in the lab and cracking jokes into the camera, you can in the above deleted scene, where he calls out each of his crew members while attempting to complete their abandoned projects — because what else is he going to do with his free time?

Recently we learned that there’s about 20 minutes of deleted material that will appear on a director’s cut DVD / Blu-ray release, presumably including this clip.

The Martian is currently playing in theaters, and if you haven’t made time to see it yet, you should probably go ahead and figure that out.
