20th Century Fox has been offering some pretty great promotional videos for Ridley Scott’s The Martian, including a look at the harrowing journey to Mars hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson and a surprisingly funny video featuring a series of interviews with the crew of the fictional Ares 3 mission. Their latest “in-world” video is basically a sleek promotional ad featuring Matt Damon’s astronaut Mark Watney.

The new video offers a very well-shot and edited look at Watney’s training regimen as he prepares for his dangerous mission to Mars with the Ares 3 crew. It’s a bit similar to commercials produced by sportswear companies and the military.

It’s the latest in a series of videos 20th Century Fox refers to as “in-world” — fictional videos that come directly from the world of the film, which is a bit more exciting than your average run of trailers and TV spots.

Based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir, The Martian is described as follows:

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive. Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return.

The Martian also stars Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Kate Mara, Michael Pena and Donald Glover, and hits theaters on October 2.
