The new trailer for 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' looks like it has all of the ingredients to be the next big Young Adult movie franchise. A young girl with special powers? Check. Two love interests from completely different worlds? Check. A supernatural mystery that's in desperate need of solving? Check. The only question now is whether or not this thing will have the appeal of 'Twilight' or 'The Hunger Games.'

Directed by 'The Karate Kid's' Harald Zwart, the movie follows Clary Fray (Lily Collins), your average, ordinary girl who learns that she has some not-so-average, not-so-ordinary connections to the supernatural when she comes into contact with a group of demon hunters called the Shadowhunters. Although the trailer doesn't say so specifically, it practically screams, "She's a Shadowhunter too! SHE'S A SHADOWHUNTER TOO!" so you can add 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' to the list of things 'The Mortal Instruments' appears to be riffing on.

Collins' co-stars include Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Lena Headey, Jared Harris and CCH Pounder, which means this is the 'Tudors'/'Game of Thrones'/'Mad Men'/'The Shield' spinoff you never knew you wanted.

'The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones' opens on August 26.
