See the Cast of 'The Shadow' Then and NowBritt Hayes |
Based on the classic pulp novels of the same name, 'The Shadow' starred Alec Baldwin as a hero battling a villain intent on building an atomic bomb.
Since it was recently released on Blu-ray, we thought it would be fun to look back at the underrated superhero flick almost 20 years later and see what the cast has been up to since.
Alec Baldwin, Lamont Cranston/The Shadow
Then: Alec Baldwin had previously played famed hero Jack Ryan in 'The Hunt for Red October' alongside Anne Archer, daughter of John Archer, who was one of the actors who originated the voice of The Shadow on the classic radio program.
Now: You of course know Alec Baldwin for his many great roles, such as Jack Donaghy on the long-running sitcom '30 Rock.' His most recent films include 'Rock of Ages,' 'To Rome with Love' and 'Rise of the Guardians.' He reunited with writer/director Woody Allen on the upcoming film 'Blue Jasmine.'
John Lone, Shiwan Khan
Then: The Hong Kong-born actor had appeared in 'The Last Emperor' and 'M. Butterfly' before tackling the villainous role of Shiwan Khan in 'The Shadow.'
Now: Lone hasn't appeared in many films, though you may have seen him in 'Rush Hour 2' or the 2007 flick 'War,' starring Jason Statham and Jet Li. In recent years, Lone has preferred to pursue his career in the Asian market.
Penelope Ann Miller, Margo Lane
Then: Penelope Ann Miller had quite the resume before joining the cast as Margo Lane (in comic books, Margo was rumored to be the long-lost sister of 'Superman' love interest Lois Lane), including roles in 'Big Top Pee-wee,' 'Kingergarten Cop' and 'Chaplin.'
Now: Miller has found success in darker films, such as 'The Relic' and 'Along Came a Spider,' and most recently she had a recurring role on the TV series 'Men of a Certain Age.'
Ian McKellen, Dr. Reinhardt Lane
Then: Acclaimed British actor of stage and screen, Ian McKellen played the role of Dr. Reinhardt Lane, father of Margo and friend of The Shadow.
Now: You probably know him best as Magneto from the 'X-Men' films or as Gandalf from 'The Lord of the Rings' series and 'The Hobbit.' The openly gay actor is an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights.
Tim Curry, Farley Claymore
Then: The star of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and 'Legend' had previously had a long and successful career on stage, and had worked with co-star Ian McKellen on a stage version of 'Amadeus.' He only joined the cast of 'The Shadow' so he could work with McKellen again.
Now: Curry mostly does voiceover work these days, lending his talents to animated shows like 'Young Justice' and 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars.'
James Hong, Li Peng
Then: An actor who began his career doing voiceover dubbing for Asian films before having his career really take off as sorcerer Lo Pan in 'Big Trouble in Little China,' James Hong played the small part of Li Peng in 'The Shadow.'
Now: Hong has over 500 acting credits under his belt, with roles in films as varied as 'Wayne's World 2,' 'The Art of War' and both 'Kung Fu Panda' movies. You can see him next in this summer's horror comedy 'R.I.P.D.'
