Similar to what's going on with 'Once Upon A Time' these days, hit CW drama 'The Vampire Diaries' will soon test the waters of a spinoff when April 25 episode "The Originals" serves as a backdoor pilot for a potential Klaus-centric spinoff of the same name. The new series would be set in the majesty of New Orleans and feature characters old and new, so how would you like a first look at the new series for 'Vampire Diaries' fans everywhere?

'The Vampire Diaries' and Joseph Morgan fans alike will soon be in for a treat, as The CW unveils a backdoor pilot for 'The Originals.' Prior to that, however, Entertainment Weekly obtained a first-look photo of the pilot episode, which will move forward to series in May if The CW wills it so. The photo features Klaus and fellow series star Elijah (Daniel Gillies), set against the majestic backdrop of New Orleans. Whether or not the series can actually continue shooting on the location remains to be seen.

The new series will follow Klaus as he “returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, a town he helped build centuries ago, and is reunited with his diabolical former protege Marcel.” Recent ‘Vampire Diaries’ series regular Phoebe Tonkin will reprise her role as werewolf character Hayley, as well. Should The CW decide to take ‘The Originals’ to series, ‘Vampire Diaries’ executive producer and episode writer Julie Plec will serve as showrunner, with Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo acting as executive producers.
