'The Walking Dead' season 4 will shamble out its first episode, "30 Days Without an Accident," on October 13, leaving plenty of time to re-watch season 3 and check out the special features from the August 27 Blu-ray and DVD release! Our latest look at 'The Walking Dead' season 3 highlights the gory process it took to bring one of Michonne's (Danai Gurira) most iconic images to life, or un-life as it were, in making the katana-wielding warrior's "pets."

As it turns out, more practical FX work went into making Michonne's jawless, armless walker companions (who have their own tragic history outside the show) than we might have thought. Indeed the actor's arms were "hacked off" by wearing blue sleeves to remove in post production, thought the visceral effect of removing their jaws was actually achieved by a makeup and perspective trick that left the performers virtually blind.

While we await the latest details from 'The Walking Dead' season 4, the next run of the AMC horror-drama will introduce ‘The Wire’ star Lawrence Gilliard, Jr. as comic character Bob Stookey, and upgrade actors Chad Coleman, Sonequa Martin-Green and Emily Kinney to series regulars. AMC earlier confirmed that David Morrissey would also return in season 4 as a series regular, while the series is confirmed to have begun casting three new roles exceptionally familiar to comic fans.

We'll have plenty more to pore over in the coming weeks, including giveaways of 'The Walking Dead' season 3 Blu-ray. In the meantime, check out the behind-the-scenes look at Michonne's pets above, and tell us your favorite moments from season 3!
