Most of us are so ravenous with anticipation with what 'The Walking Dead' season 3 will bring this Sunday, October 14 in premiere episode "Seed," that we've barely considered the idea of what happened before the series!  So while we anxiously await Sunday's premiere, is there a chance that AMC will go even deeper into the mythology with a prequel movie?  Series show-runner Glen Mazzara seems to think it's a possibility, and may have let slip a major spoiler in the process of explaining!

'The Walking Dead' season 3 will premiere this Sunday, October 14, no doubt satisfying the bloodthirsty cravings of fans all around the world (minus DISH subscribers, of course) as we learn what happened to Rick Grimes and the other survivors following the tense season 2 finale "Beside the Dying Fire."  Most fans know that 'The Walking Dead' season 3 will also introduce the infamous prison of the Image comic books, which provides a new safe (ish) haven for the survivors, but what happened to the facility itself?

TVLine caught up with 'The Walking Dead' show-runner Glenn Mazzara at the show's recent L.A. premiere, who teased the possibility that the zombie-ridden correctional facility might have a history of its own worth re-telling:

The way I look at this prison is, when the outbreak happened, there was a zombie movie that took place in a prison.  And one day maybe we'll go back and film that movie, and now our guys come in, and they're sort of the sequel to what happened.

But that's not all!  In the course of explaining his idea for a 'Walking Dead' prequel, Mazzara revealed something about the prison that up to now promotional materials and trailers have been very careful to hide.

So there are survivors in that prison, there [is] damage in the prison, so walkers keep coming in, and it's never safe. They fooled themselves into thinking the farm was safe...from the jump they know this prison is not safe, and that remains true throughout the season.

Survivors, you say?  Could there be survivors hidden within the prison walls when Rick Grimes and co. happen upon the overrun facility?  As fans of the comic book series well know - SPOILER ALERT - in the course of clearing out the prison, Rick and his group found four inmates locked within the prison cafeteria for their own protection, each of whom had a lasting impact on the story.  It remains to be seen if AMC's 'The Walking Dead' will introduce the same characters, or put their own spin on the find in keeping with its other comic adaptations.  In any case, it's certainly a surprising detail to divulge, albeit one we saw coming a long time ago.
