We were shocked enough when 'The Walking Dead''s Governor survived the events of season 3 finale "Welcome to the Tombs," let alone his brief return in this past Sunday's "Internment," but we'd have to be crazy to think AMC would allow David Morrissey's villainous character to survive another season, right? Right?

Well, according to Morrissey himself, taking the lead role in AMC's forthcoming pilot 'Line of Sight' may not have been the final nail in the character's coffin after all. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Morrissey assured that his first priority remains 'The Walking Dead,' even if the AMC horror-drama decided to keep the character into the recently announced fifth season.

I had a little hiatus on 'The Walking Dead' and we filmed that pilot. So I’m waiting to see. But I like 'The Walking Dead.' I am part of 'The Walking Dead.' I really hope to make it to season 5 of 'The Walking Dead.' I don’t know what’s going to happen — that’s an AMC decision, not mine. But I really consider myself to be a 'Walking Dead' actor, and I consider myself to be the Governor and that’s where I am with this at the moment.

That was a nice little break for me, and I hope it happens, but I don’t know how it will happen. It’s been made very clear to me that this is my show. 'The Walking Dead' is my show and I’m very proud of it and I want to be a part of that. Suffice it to say I am a 'Walking Dead' actor and that is the show that I employed to do, and the show I love.

We'd be hard-pressed to imagine that the irredeemable villain could once again escape death at the edge of Michonne's sword, or even Rick's gun for that matter, but given AMC's announcement to extend the series' vitality with a spinoff companion of sorts, the network may wish to keep a few cards up its sleeves for season 5 after all.

What say you? Would you want to see the Governor survive into 'The Walking Dead' season 5, or has the character signed his own death warrant a hundred times over? Tell us how you'd like to see the rest of the season play out in the comments, after the latest preview!
