Gee, with 'The Walking Dead''s popularity at an all time high before this coming Sunday's season 5 premiere, did we even have to wonder if AMC's monster smash would return for a sixth season in fall 2015? Let us ease your trouble mind of such frivolity, as 'The Walking Dead' has in fact been confirmed for season 6!

So yes, pizza is delicious, the skies are blue, nobody wants a new U2 album, and 'The Walking Dead''s inevitable season 6 return shouldn't surprise anyone. Last year, AMC president Charlie Collier even jokingly called the development "one of the most anti-climactic renewal announcements ever." Keeping the current creative team in place, here's what AMC had to say this time around:

We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of ‘The Walking Dead’ with fans around the globe. In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.

In the meantime, we know of ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 that existing stars Christian Serratos (Rosita), Alanna Masterson (Tara) and Andrew J. West (Gareth) have all been upgraded to series regulars, while ‘The Wire‘ star Seth Gilliam joined in a role confirmed to be that of comic preacher Gabriel Stokes, and 'Everybody Hates Chris' star Tyler James Williams will play "Noah." The fifth season of AMC’s monster-drama will pick up shortly after season 4 finale “A,” eschewing the usual time jump to show Rick and the group's escape from Terminus. Oh, and don’t forget about our beat-by-beat breakdown of the Comic-Con trailer!

We'll also have the "companion series" to look forward to in 2015, but in the meantime, what say you? Has excitement for 'The Walking Dead' season 5 reached such a fever pitch that news of a season 6 renewal barely registers? Tell us what you want to see from the future of the AMC zombie drama as we head into the season 5 premiere this Sunday!
