The Four Stooges?

I enjoyed the Farrelly brothers’ The Three Stooges, featuring Chris Diamantopoulos, Sean Hayes, and Will Sasso as Moe, Larry, and Curly brought to life and up to date in 2012. It was a funny movie! I particularly liked the scene where the Stooges got into a literal pissing contest, squirting each other with a bunch of babies. Look, I didn’t say it was Citizen Kane, or even the Citizen Kane of peeing baby movies. But I laughed.

I kind of thought I was the only one, though. The movie barely made $50 million worldwide and got buried by many critics. Some hardcore Stooges fans thought it was heretical to recast the roles, and casual moviegoers were confused why Sean Hayes was bald and talking in a strange accent. It was sort of a movie for no one (one of the things I perversely enjoyed about it), and it seemed destined to fade into obscurity.

But what do I know about destiny? Not much apparently, as TheWrap reports that a Three Stooges sequel is now in the works, with Diamantopoulos, Hayes, and Sasso all returning as the title characters. There’s no mention of the Farrelly brothers so far; instead, Cameron Fay, who penned the upcoming Brother in Laws, will write the screenplay for the film. The Three Stooges 2 (The Three Stooges and Another Stooge?) will reportedly also feature “a major action star” who’ll get into trouble with the Stooges. Who that major action star is they don’t say, but I know who I’d want it to be: Steven Seagal. I’d pay to see him get poked in the eyes and bonked on the noggin. That guy; what a maroon.
