After a long year chasing names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale to star opposite Beyonce Knowles in Clint Eastwood's remake of 'A Star is Born,' WB is reaching out to Tom Cruise to fill the shoes once worn by Fredric March, James Mason, and Kris Kristofferson in three previous iterations of the classic story.

Variety reports that WB is eyeing Cruise to play the role of an aging entertainer who falls for a young singer while attempting to make her into a big star. Cruise recently wrapped WB's 'Rock of Ages,' based on the Broadway musical of the same name, in which he plays rock star Stacee Jaxx.

Should his busy schedule allow, Cruise could easily transition from his 'Rock of Ages' role into this one, but we're secretly hoping his approach is more like his character in P.T. Anderson's 'Magnolia.' In fact, he should be more like that character in every movie. Actually, we should just watch 'Magnolia.' Can you bring your copy over? We have tea.
