Until recently, the video game character Lara Croft was as well known for her bust as she was for any tomb raiding she took part in. And though her video game franchise 'Tomb Raider' was very popular and spawned two movie spin-offs, the creators were aware that it might be time to not make her such a fetish object for their latest game. That thought process is also being applied to the new movie version of 'Tomb Raider,' as the producers have hired Marti Noxon to work on the script.

This news comes from Variety, where Noxon is described as a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' scribe. Noxon may be best known for her tenure on that show, but she's also worked on 'Mad Men,' and wrote the adaptation of 'I Am Number Four' and the remake of 'Fright Night' for the big screen. While her movie work isn't as impressive as her time writing for television, she's obviously got a lot of talent.

And considering how few movies are made about female protagonists (at least one's not involving a dystopian future and/or vampires), it's great to see that the people behind this one thought it was a good idea to also get a female writer on board. Even if the film isn't great, that's a smart starting place. Currently the film is in development over at MGM.
