Rian Johnson's mind-scrambling time travel tale (which later morphs into a superhero epic) has one of the sharpest opening 20 minutes I've seen in a very long time. And even without cracking out the straws to make a diagram on the diner table, 'Looper's' internal logic actually makes sense. It's is so much fun, in fact, that you don't notice, at first, its many dark beats and the troublesome decisions of its heroes.

Best part: Montage of Joseph Gordon-Levitt's retirement years.
