No. 17: ‘Damsels in Distress’ – Top 20 Movies of 2012

Some dismissed this movie because it is so frilly and light. Yes, it does end with an invitation for the audience to get up and do some dance moves, but this film is much more sly than it first appears. It is a surreal gay romp through a make believe undergraduate environment where everyone speaks strange, clipped phrases and is proper and chaste. But not too chaste! Listen closely and, indeed, this is actually a tried college comedy but spun completely on its head.

Best part: Cathar beliefs.
