Lego did not hold much back Toy Fair this year, unleashing an incredible number of sets across its massively popular licensed brands Marvel, DC and Star Wars. Sure, Lego had plenty of its own proprietary content on hand, too, but let's face it; building the Batcave is something we've all wanted to do. Now we can, and at a fraction of the real thing's price.

The same goes for the biggest unveiling at Toy Fair 2016, the Assault of Hoth playset. Contained in a lucite box that was fogged a bit to give the piece the illusion of actually being prey to Hoth's brutally cold atmosphere. Lego could have just put it outside on the New York streets for the same effect, but that might have been just a tad too real. The Assault on Hoth is a clever set though, and features the Rebel installation moments before the Empire attacked. Not only is there a snow speeder bay, but there are blaster defenses and turrets you can set up. There's also a wampa and Luke portion to show off those moments where he got his face rearranged, even if the location is fudged a bit to fit in the set. Most of the parts are free-standing, too, which means you can take up as much or as little of your room with this miniature Hoth base as you want.

Things don't end there for Lego's Star Wars plans however, and there are more than a few nice Rebels-themed and general sets on the way. I don't think anyone will complain about the Darth Vader TIE Advanced vs. A-Wing Figther set, which not only includes the Sith Lord, but also the underrated A-Wing and a Sabine minifigure, among others. Captain Rex's AT-TE is a massive beast that's sure to generate a lot of "ooohs" and "ahhhhs" from fans and anyone who sees this thing completed in your home. There are a lot of great details thrown in there, but it's definitely a shelf space eater.

While we had seen the Captain America: Civil War sets through the European catalog released a short while back, seeing them in person and up close was nice. The full airport terminal was not on display for spoiler reasons, which was a bit of a disappointment as I was hoping to see the "classified" parts make an official showing. Even with all those new sets on display, the best Marvel Super Heroes reveal was the massive Web Warriors set. Taking place on a portion of what looks like the Brooklyn Bridge, the set features a massive battle between Spider-Man and his allies against the likes of Kraven and the Green Goblin. Poor Aunt May is just caught in the crossfire.

The numerous Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice sets that have already made it to stores were on full display, but the unseen sets featuring Batman's rogues were clearly the belles of the DC Super Heroes ball. Killer Croc's Sewer Smash looks incredible, and that big ol' Bat-tank is just tremendously executed. I have no idea where this set would fit, but damned if I don't want and need that big Bat-tank holding down the fort alongside the Millennium Falcon and SHIELD Helicarrier. Let's not forget though that Harley Quinn and Deadshot will be getting one of the cheaper DC sets in the coming months too, meaning we're that much closer to being able to put together a Lego Suicide Squad. We'll have to buy like six different sets to make it happen, but it's a dream devoted Lego fans could soon realize.
