Voice Commands Coming to PlayStation 4

It looks like Sony has some more features for the PlayStation 4 planned that it hasn't fully disclosed just yet, some of which include voice controls for the PlayStation Eye camera.

At the GameStop Expo this past week, Sony gave a video presentation on the PlayStation 4. Polygon reported YouTube user lex1020 captured the talk, where a description of the camera on screen revealed the voice functionality. "From navigational voice commands to facial recognition, the PlayStation Camera adds incredible innovation to your gaming," the slide read.

Sony confirmed the minor details to the site, adding more details about PS4 features were still to come. "Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that PlayStation Camera allows for voice recognition and we will look forward to sharing more details in the lead up to the launch of PlayStation 4 on November 29," a spokesperson stated.

Though the camera isn't mandatory, the functionality makes sense given how it's built, and could take some of the thunder away from Kinect functions previously specific to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. While no developers have revealed planned voice functionality as of yet for a PS4 launch titles, perhaps it's because Sony didn't want those features touted just yet. Now that the cat is out of the bag, it's only a matter of time until we'll get a better picture of just what the PlayStation Eye will offer next-gen gaming.
