Apart from The Walking Dead Season 6’s controversial finale denying us the identity of someone’s “Last Day on Earth,” comic fans of the AMC horror smash also missed out on one of the more horrific visuals ever to grace the series. Now, Greg Nicotero’s latest FX test could point the way to a certain batty end, and whoever it is looks to be taking it like a champ.

Take this with a grain of salt for now, as The Walking Dead Season 7 will work overtime to ensure that the death in question eludes prying eyes, though a new gore experiment posted to executive producer and FX master Greg Nicotero’s Instagram page (via UPROXX) might show us how a human head looks after some explosive trauma:

Granted, the effect reads more like a shotgun blast than a baseball bat, though Nicotero and co. might simply want a read on how the final product looks. There’s also the anonymity of the  mannequin in question, perhaps a random Savior, but for such a detailed, intricate bust, one would imagine a bit more regard for a prop production actually needed.

In any case, The Walking Dead has quite a challenge ahead, to keep the big death under wraps from irate fans, yet still shoot outdoors and assemble a trailer for Comic-Con. There’s certainly at least one gruesome effect in our future, but which unlucky Alexandrian might get the wrong end of Negan’s bat?
