‘Warcraft’ Movie Reveals First Look at Orgrim Doomhammer

Say hello to one of the main characters of the upcoming Warcraft film, Orgrim Doomhammer, the Warchief for the Horde.

Wired has posted new pictures from the upcoming Warcraft film, which acts as a prequel to the popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. Blizzard Entertainment released a trilogy of RTS Warcraft titles prior to World of Warcraft's release, and director Duncan Jones' Warcraft film will be primarily based on the first game of the series. Now, we can finally take a look at one of our Orcish heroes, Orgrim Doomhammer. Orgrim was rendered by the team at Industrial Light and Magic, who helped bring the Hulk to life in Avengers: Age of Ultron. ILM created Orgrim's look by using Blizzard's original concept art of the character as a basis and merging it with photographs of actor Robert Kazinsky (Pacific Rim).

“We were looking for someone who would be able to perform the gruffness, the humor, and the toughness of this character,” said director Duncan Jones about casting Kazinsky. “We’ve gone beyond the point where these are just creatures in movies. We now have the technology and the ability to make new characters entirely.”

For those who don't remember, Orgrim Doomhammer was the Warchief of the Horde during the end of the first Warcraft game and during the second war. In the World of Warcraft, Orgrimmar, Hammerfall and Orgrim's Hammer were all named in honor of this beloved leader. Orgrim took command of the Horde after killing the treacherous Warchief Blackhand and trying to stop Gul'dan from corrupting the Orcs with demon blood. Unfortunately, Orgrim and his wife were slain by Guldan's Shadow Council.

We should note that principal photography on Warcraft had finished back in May 2014, and the film was originally slated for a Dec. 2015 launch. Obviously, Legendary Pictures doesn't want this film to try and contend with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so they moved it to a June 2016 launch, which shows that the studio is serious about this Azerothian war by pushing it back to next year's blockbuster season.

Warcraft's upcoming June 10, 2016 release date puts it awfully close to the theatrical debuts of The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist and Uncharted, another video game-based movie.
