A few weeks ago we saw the festival trailer for Welcome to Me, the new dramedy starring a bonkers Kristen Wiig (the best kind) winning the Lotto and getting her own talk show. Today brings the official trailer for the upcoming indie, which generated some positive buzz on the festival circuit, and now you can see why for yourself.

Welcome to Me looks like Wiig at her best, taking on a complex and flawed character, delivering not only laughs, but some genuine heart. Wiig plays Alice Klieg, a socially awkward and mentally ill woman who doesn’t seem to have much self-awareness, much less a filter when speaking publicly (“I’ve used masturbation as a sedative”). Oprah-obsessed Alice wins the Lotto and uses the money to start her very own talk show, and while it seems like sort of a trainwreck, Alice’s weirdly endearing behavior and personality make her something of an attraction.

Plus she gets to ride around in a swan boat, and who wouldn’t take that opportunity if they won the Lotto and tried to style themselves as the next Oprah? Come on. Welcome to Me is produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, which adds a little extra cred, but judging by the new trailer, the film doesn’t particularly look like it needs that much help to get us interested.

Welcome to Me also stars James Marsden, Linda Cardellini, Wes Bentley, Tim Robbins, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Joan Cusack, and hits theaters on May 1.
