The age of TV reboots hasn’t quite taken us back to The West Wing, though it’s at least on Aaron Sorkin’s mind. Don’t worry about a Trumped-up Jed Bartlet, however, as Sorkin reveals a potential revival might elect Emmy-winner Sterling K. Brown to the highest office. So, what’s holding Sorkin back?

The Hollywood Reporter published a lengthy profile with the controversial Sorkin, touching on a few of his NBC projects in addition to the upcoming Molly’s Game. Sorkin hasn’t quite cracked his stage version of A Few Good Men just yet, but apparently “considers on occasion” a standing West Wing revival offer from NBC. Thankfully, Sorkin has no interest in exploring a Trump-like figure, but does see a role for This Is Us star Sterling K. Brown:

[It would involve] Sterling K. Brown as the president, and there’s some kind of jam, an emergency, a very delicate situation involving the threat of war or something, and [President] Bartlet [played by Martin Sheen], long since retired, is consulted in the way that Bill Clinton used to consult with Nixon.

Before anyone starts drilling walk-and-talks around the Oval Office, however, the piece does note that “how he brings Allison Janney’s C.J. Cregg or Bradley Whitford’s Josh Lyman into the new scenario is where Sorkin gets stuck.” Considering that Sorkin already has interest in pushing A Few Good Men to next season for more prep time, while This Is Us remains Brown’s TV priority, we wouldn’t bet on a West Wing revival anytime soon. Then again …

In the meantime, stay tuned for further word on Sorkin’s TV return.
