I really want to see While We’re Young and I’m terrified to see it at the same time. I love writer/director Noah Baumbach (he’s the guy who made The Squid and the WhaleGreenberg, and Frances Ha), and I can really relate to the premise of an older, childless married couple trying to recapture their youth. But I think I might relate to that premise a little too strongly. I’ve been that guy who, as Ben Stiller’s character puts it, feels like “a child imitating an adult.” My wife has been that woman who sticks out like a sore thumb (and then a sore back) at hip-hop class. And I love the Paul McCartney song “Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five” they play in the trailer. Because, again, I am very old.

Stiller and Naomi Watts play the lead couple; Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried are the younger couple they meet and begin to hang out with — and yes, that is Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz as Stiller and Watts’ more mature friend. Yes, the mature friend. Like I said, old.

While We’re Young opens on March 27. I will be there, contemplating whether or not I can still get away with wearing a fedora in public.
