‘Wonder Woman’ Reveals First Official Photo and Cast Members as Production Begins
It’s official: as evidenced last week by a set photo featuring Chris Pine, production on Wonder Woman is underway with director Patty Jenkins, and Warner Bros. has released the first official photo of Gal Gadot as the titular superhero. In addition, the studio has announced several new cast members, including Danny Huston, David Thewlis and Robin Wright.
Gadot tweeted the first official image of herself in costume for the solo film, and we’ve included a larger version of the image at the bottom of this post:
Last week, Wonder Woman co-star Said Taghmaoui posted a photo of himself with Chris Pine as Steve Trevor (or Grandpa Trevor?) on the set of the upcoming film, though the photo was quickly deleted from his Instagram. Today brings the first official image of Wonder Woman herself, while WB has revealed the casting of several more actors.
Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis (Harry Potter), Ewen Bremmer (Snowpiercer), Elena Anaya (The Skin I Live In) and Lucy Davis (Shaun of the Dead) have joined the cast of the highly-anticipated DC superhero film, though details on their roles have not yet been revealed.
Nicole Kidman has reportedly been in talks for a key role, with many believing she would play Hippolyta / Diana’s mother — but there’s no word of her casting in WB’s press release, and it’s possible that Wright has taken that part or that Kidman is still in talks. The official statement doesn’t offer any additional plot details, though it’s been heavily rumored that a portion of the film takes place during World War I, seemingly confirmed by the set photo of Pine and Taghmaoui in period garb.
Here’s the larger version of the first official image, as promised. The cloak obscures most of Gadot’s traditional costume, but you can see her gauntlets and hints of her gold accessories:
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23, 2017.
