2K Marin, the developer behind The Bureau: XCOM Declassified and BioShock 2, is believed to have been hit with massive staff reductions.

According to Polygon, there are no exact numbers for the amount of people affected by the layoffs. However, sources indicated a "majority" of the team has been terminated. One source even boldly claimed he was "100 percent sure" 2K Marin was effectively closed. The only staff believed to be safe from the reductions are those currently moving to the new San Francisco area office, headed up by former BioShock Infinite producer Rod Ferguson.

"We can confirm staff reductions at 2K Marin. While these were difficult decisions, we regularly evaluate our development efforts and have decided to reallocate creative resources. Our goal to create world-class video game titles remains unchanged," a 2K representative told the site in a statement.

2K Marin is just the latest studio in a growing list of developers impacted by expanding budgets and the need for mandatory instant sales success. It's a trend that's become all too familiar these past few years, and with budgets soaring ever higher, one that's also unlikely to cease anytime soon.
