The shortened run of The X-Files’ first FOX revival left little room for meaningful cameos of prior cast, so will the eleventh season make up for it? We’ll find out, as Annabeth Gish’s Agent Reyes books yet another return, potentially joined this time by Robert Patrick’s Doggett.

Now that production has gotten underway in Vancouver, Gish confirmed her return to the franchise over Instagram. GIsh only appeared in a solitary episode of the 2016 season, even as she and co-star Robert Patrick essentially took top billing for The X-Files’ ninth and final year when David Duchovny left the series behind over contract disputes.

Gish notably wasn’t joined by Patrick the first time around, but there’s hope yet Doggett and Reyes could reunite in the new ten-episode run. TVInsider reports that when asked about a potential return, current Scorpion regular Patrick offered:

I haven’t heard from [The X-Files creator] Chris [Carter], but I am totally willing to go back if I think it’s the right thing to do and if they want me to do it. But at this point, no one has asked me anything; I would certainly be interested. But I’m always the last to know with this kind of stuff.

Set for a midseason premiere, the next X-Files run will see Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny aboard for a full ten episodes (compared with six for the first revival), joined by returning veteran Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner. The additional episodes are expected to follow a more rounded narrative than the re-shuffled mix of mythology and stand-alone episodes from last year.

Series creator Chris Carter will lead a writing team of former producers Glen Morgan, Darin Morgan and James Wong; now joined by Season 9 writers assistant Gabe Rotter, Season 10 assistant Benjamin Van Allen and Carter’s own assistant Brad Follmer. The all-male team did not go unnoticed by the internet, including Anderson herself.

We’ll likely hear more as production continues over the next few months, so stay tuned for the latest on The X-Files Season 11.
