Vincent D’Onofrio playing a bad guy is about as reliable as the changing of the tides, the sun rising in the morning or…as Vincent D’Onofrio playing a bad guy. We’ll get a little taste of his penchant for fictional villainy next month when Marvel’s Daredevil series hits Netflix, but he’s already made plans for his next dubious role: the actor will play the villain in Antoine Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven.

Variety reports that D’Onofrio is in talks to take the antagonist role in Fuqua’s upcoming remake of John Sturges’ 1960 film, itself based on Akira Kurosawa’s classic masterpiece Seven Samurai. The 1960 film followed a group of seven American gunslingers who venture to a small Mexican village to protect its residents from an outlaw gang lead by the nefarious Calvera.

Fuqua’s version, also titled The Magnificent Seven, reunites the director with his Training Day and Equalizer star Denzel Washington. Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke will also co-star in the upcoming film, based on a script by The Blind Side and Saving Mr. Banks writer John Lee Hancock. Hancock reworked the screenplay from an original draft by True Detective writer/showrunner Nic Pizzolatto.

The trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw, starring a very ripped Jake Gyllenhaal as an emotionally tormented boxer, dropped this week. That film hits theaters on July 31.

D’Onofrio can be seen next as the villainous Kingpin in Daredevil, which hits Netflix Instant on April 10. He also plays an antagonistic role in Jurassic World, which arrives in theaters on June 12, 2015.
