The Worst ‘Passengers’ Reviews: Critics Are Raving
Have you ever seen those movie ads on TV filled with gushing quotes from critics and thought to yourself, “I saw that movie; it was terrible. Where did they find these positive reviews?” If you have, you’re not alone — and you’re going to love ScreenCrush’s newest series, Critics Are Raving, which balances the cinematic scales with trailers full of slightly more accurate (and slightly more negative) lines from reviews. Real critics. Real quotes. Really bad movies. That’s what’s Critics Are Raving is all about.
On our fifth episode: Two of the biggest stars on the planet join forces to leave the planet for a sci-fi romance that is in no way creepy whatsoever. All right, so maybe it’s a little creepy, something that a lot of the film’s reviews have pointed out. Even with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in the lead roles, Passengers has managed to impress just 31 percent of critics on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s doing okay at the box office, with about $120 million worldwide after two weeks of release, but even audiences are mixed; its CinemaScore is a so-so “B,” worse than recent duds like Collateral Beauty, Inferno, and even Assassin’s Creed.
