Alfonso Cuarón, the director behind Children of Men and Gravity, is returning to Mexico for a new, untitled project. He will be directing and also writing the film, his first shot in Mexico since 2001’s Y Tu Mamá También.

Alfonso Cuarón has taken note of the tides shifting in China’s direction, and he made that much clear with a surprising statement backstage at the inaugural China-U.S. Motion Picture Summit last night. The Hollywood Reporter quotes the Academy Award-winning director of such films as Gravity, Children of Men, and Y Tu Mama Tambien as expressing a desire to shoot a film in Chinese.

You may not be aware of this, but Warner Bros. has been involved in a lawsuit over the screenplay to Alfonso Cuaron’s ‘Gravity,’ one of the biggest films of 2013. The film, which took home seven Academy Awards including Best Director for Cuaron, was based on a book by Tess Gerritsen, and although the author had a contract with WB subsidiary New Line, she was never given credit for her story. In a recent lawsuit, a judge dismissed her case against WB, but that isn’t the end of Gerritsen’s fight—a fight which serves to highlight a serious issue for screenwriters.

Well this is kind of disappointing: for fans who were excited to see director Alfonso Cuaron return to the 'Harry Potter' universe to direct the spinoff film 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,' you're out of luck. Turns out that the director will not be returning to the wonderful world of J.K. Rowling after all.

Well, this is an unexpected and perfect surprise: the latest internet buzz suggests that the absolutely brilliant 'Gravity' director Alfonso Cuaron is in talks to helm the Harry Potter spin-off 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.' Take all of this with a grain of salt until an official announcement arrives, but it's difficult to imagine a more perfect choice for the job.
