‘Pirates 5’ Director Adapting Michael Crichton’s ‘Micro’
Sounds like Michael Crichton’s about to have another moment. With two more Jurassic World movies coming out in the next few years, plus the success of HBO’s Westworld, Crichton has snuck back into the spotlight. The next adaptation of his work will be somewhat smaller in scale, as the director of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and the producer of both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World are teaming up to adapt Crichton’s posthumously published novel Micro.
Kate McKinnon to Star in Amblin’s YA ‘The Lunch Witch’
Kate McKinnon has officially stepped into the shoes of all the SNL stars before her who went from TV to movies at lightning speed. After this summer’s Ghostbusters, McKinnon has Office Christmas Party coming up this weekend, and today it was announced that she will be playing the titular spellcaster in Amblin’s adaptation of The Lunch Witch.
Jay Roach to Rewrite, Potentially Direct ‘Intelligent Life’
For a brief moment, Ava DuVernay was attached to direct Intelligent Life for Amblin with Lupita Nyong’o on board to star, but when the former departed the project to focus on Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time, the latter also jumped ship — leaving the film in flux. But the sci-fi project has found new life with Jay Roach, who has signed on rewrite and potentially direct Intelligent Life based on Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly’s screenplay.
