It’s been over three years since Steve McQueen released his last film, 12 Years a Slave, but the director of the Oscar-winning drama has a couple of projects on the horizon — including Widows, an upcoming heist thriller based on a screenplay by McQueen and acclaimed Gone Girl author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn. Viola Davis signed on to star in the film last fall, and today brings word that another awards season favorite has joined her in McQueen’s highly-anticipated new project.

Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time might have just cast its first villain, in the form of none other than Ant-Man co-star Michael Pena. At this point, we should have learned by now not to be surprised by any more casting choices, as DuVernay first made the central family of the film mixed race instead of white, and cast Zach Galifianakis as a character who’s normally a woman. And now we have Michael Pena, who could appear in the film as one of the most sinister, creepy characters of the book.

Barry Jenkins‘ Moonlight is already being called one of the best movies of the year, and not without reason. It’s a visual feast quaking with beauty and sadness, a hushed poem of pain and romance, and a piece of filmmaking that feels more alive . But most people will also be talking about Moonlight for its actors, and its triads of shattering, magnetic performances.
