August: Osage County

It's sad news to end the week with: actress Misty Upham, who recently appeared in 'Django Unchained' and 'August: Osage Country,' was found dead at the bottom of a Seattle ravine. Her body was discovered by a search party led by her family, who are now accusing the local police of failing to assist in the situation in any way.

'August: Osage County' looks like the kind of film that's primed to win Oscars. Based on the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Tracy Letts, the film is a high impact dramedy filled with all of the emotional turmoil and familial dysfunction you can imagine. The new trailer is probably only the tip of the iceberg.

If disses were marble, Tracy Letts would be Michelangelo and 'August: Osage County' would be his David. His characters in this film, directed by John Wells and based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning play, are an extended family of well-off Oklahomans loaded with secrets and festering emotional wounds. They have gathered to bury the patriarch, played by Sam Shepard in one outstanding prologue scene. S

Benedict Cumberbatch -- he of awesome name and inherent British classiness -- is currently in talks to join the ever-growing cast of 'August: Osage County,' which already packs the one-two classy punch of Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts.
