Battle Angel

Yep, that Alita: Battle Angel movie is still happening. With James Cameron set to produce, Robert Rodriguez at the helm, and Rosa Salazar on board to play the titular cyborg Alita from the manga series, all that’s left to do is to find the rest of the cast. And it looks like Christoph Waltz is in talks to play a pretty major role.

A big bit of casting new for you before your holiday weekend: Collider reports that James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have found their star for their big-budget, live-action movie version of Battle Angel Alita. It’s Rosa Salazar from The Maze Runner franchise (and the upcoming movie version of CHiPs). Salazar beat out finalists Maika Monroe (Independence Day: Resurgence) and Zendaya (Spider-Man: Homecoming) for the role.

The Terminator. Titanic. Avatar. From Dusk Till Dawn. Desperado. Sin City. James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez have directed some of the signature movies of the last 25 years and become miniature filmmaking industries unto themselves...

James Cameron has certainly been keeping himself busy -- the director, known for crafting some pretty epic films, is hard at work on both 'Avatar 2' and 'Avatar 3,' but he still hasn't forgotten about another passion project: 'Battle Angel Alita,' based on the Japanese comics of the same name. And he's still committed to getting around to making that movie, but probably not as soon as you think. R

Hey, we're not the ones who're saying this, it's filmmaker James Cameron. He thinks the world can be changed by his own movies and the messages they're slathering onto the big screen and...maybe he's right?
