Appropriate for its emphasis on the evils of technology, Black Mirror has managed to keep Season 3 largely under wraps with its move to Netflix. Now, the streaming service at last confirms new episodes will arrive in October, albeit not the full twelve ordered in the initial deal.

The anthology nature has prevented Black Mirror fans from ascertaining many details of the upcoming 12-episode Season 3, at least apart from the talent involved. We now have another notable name to add to the list, as Boardwalk Empire and Trainspotting star Kelly Macdonald will appear in one of the new season’s technology parables.

Netflix’s new season of Black Mirror has been in the works long enough to recruit some major names, and now we can add more talent behind the camera as well. 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg will helm an episode of the sci-fi anthology, joining Joe Wright, Jakob Verbruggen and more.

It’s difficult to say what new Black Mirror episodes might look like, given a Netflix order four times its usual season length, but that hasn’t stopped the Twilight Zone-esque tech anthology from beefing up its talent. Not only did Alice Eve and Bryce Dallas Howard join in February, but now Roots star Malachi Kirby will lead a fiery new parable.

Whispers turned to delight as Netflix confirmed its intent to produce twelve new episodes of UK sci-fi anthology breakout Black Mirror, up from the prior three-episode seasons. The shorter commitment has always attracted some tremendous stars, the likes of which now include Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Mackenzie Davis, along with a familiar director.

Hide your pigs! Where previously we learned that Netflix might take over production of UK sci-fi Twilight Zone analogue Black Mirror, the streaming service has gone above and beyond. Not only has Netflix confirmed its pickup, but also a whopping twelve episodes, production of which will commence later this year.

The future of the UK’s technology-driven, Twilight Zone-esque Black Mirror had never exactly been in doubt, with creator Charlie Brooker’s House of Tomorrow already in negotiations for additional episodes, amid talk of an American remake. Now however, Netflix may have stolen away on the show’s increasing popularity, reportedly securing the rights to new episodes for themselves.

The U.K.’s technology-driven ‘Twilight Zone’ ‘Black Mirror’ has exploded with American audiences over the least year, largely owing to word of mouth and Netflix views, as the series has been around since 2011. Now, like ‘Luther’ and ‘Broadchurch’ before it, “plans” are currently underway for a potential American remake of the eerie anthology.
