Sony is moving forward with their Bloodshot superhero movie, and according to a new report they already have an all-star wishlist of actors to play the part. Since they settled on a director at the beginning of March — visual effects boss Dave Wilson — production has been off and running ever since. And it looks like Sony is looking for star power to launch this relatively unknown character.

We haven’t heard much about the Bloodshot movie since the guys behind John Wick left the project some time back. It’s a bit of a tricky property to adapt, since the fan following isn‘t huge and the characters aren’t household names like the Justice League or the Avengers. The company that owns Bloodshot, Valiant Comics, has only been around since the ’90s. But now the movie is slowly picking up some steam, as it has just acquired Dave Wilson as a director.

While Marvel and DC continue to build their cinematic universes, another comic company is getting into the game. Sony Pictures has announced a deal to build a Valiant Cinematic Universe, starting with Bloodshot, a comic adaptation to be directed by David Leitch and Chad Stahelski (John Wick) that will eventually lead to the crossover film Harbinger Wars.

X-O Manowar. Harbinger. Bloodshot. Archer & Armstrong. Shadowman. These are the heroes of the Valiant Universe. In the 1990s, they were some of the hottest properties in all of comics. With top-notch talent and huge amounts of buzz, Valiant became a legitimate challenger to the dominance of the big two publishers, Marvel and DC. Their first issues (along with their fancy-schmancy chromium covers) became enormous collector’s items, and their series dominated the sales charts. Valiant was eventually sold to Acclaim, who later shuttered the imprint, but in 2012 Valiant returned from a new publisher with relaunched series and it’s been steadily growing ever since. So it’s next area of growth, naturally, is movies.
