The ‘Bad Girls’ Rescue SNL From Donald Trump
Last night’s SNL was marred by a guest host who was only there because the show wanted to ride his controversial coattails to a few extra headlines. And it worked. Everyone was talking about Donald Trump being on the newest episode of SNL. Unfortunately, publicity does not a good episode make and the Presidential hopeful showcased a distinct lack of talent and comedic chops. Thankfully, there were sketches that didn’t feature him and some of those were good. Take the “Bad Girls” video, which is evidence that the current crop of women on the show may very well be the anti-Trump when it comes to being watchable and funny.

Whatever your politics, there’s little denying that Donald Trump will deliver the spectacle to SNL this weekend, hosting alongside musical guest Sia. Following a short break, the first promos of Trump’s SNL return have arrived, and The Donald comes out swinging at his opponents just as absurdly as you imagined.

Donald Trump feels less like an actual human being and more like a comedic monster dreamed up in the SNL writers room, so bringing him into the sketch comedy fray should have been easy. Heck, casting the generally brilliant Taran Killam as the loudmouthed Presidential hopeful is just about perfect. So how did it work out?

‘SNL’’s choice to follow up Kevin Hart’s 2015 premiere hosting with ‘The Voice’ coach and newbie Blake Shelton pulling double duty seemed a risky venture, but the Southern singer fits in just fine by his first promos with cast member Cecily Strong. Watch Shelton get his obligatory chair-spin (and call out that punk Adam Levine) in our first look at this weekend’s ‘SNL!’

Fact: everyone around the world who isn’t a pre-teen girl with particularly bad taste wishes that Justin Bieber would suddenly vanish from the face of the planet, so last night’s ‘SNL’ was doing God’s work when it decided to make vicious fun of the irritating singer’s new line of a Calvin Klein underwear commercials. Hopefully, the show has no plans to actually invite Bieber on the show anytime soon because there’s no way this doesn’t tick him off (and we love it so much for that).

Set in St. Louis, the sketch starts with Beck Bennett as a news anchor for “News 4” (which is the CBS affiliate in St. Louis) relaying a serious presentation of current events, right before he hands it off to two morning show hosts (played by Kenan Thompson and Cecily Strong) who have an obnoxious show with an obnoxious theme song called ‘Rise and Smile.’ First, there’s no way this sketch should have been cut, but that’s a pretty obvious position to take.

Here's a terrifying idea: what if you thought that your apartment was haunted by various ghosties, only to learn that it was you specifically that was haunted by, well, just various ghosties. This is the apparent pickle that 'SNL' star Cecily Strong finds herself in, as a medium recently advised the comedienne that her "lack of boundaries" means that she's bringing home all kinds of weird spiritual stuff. O...kay.

It was actually a little odd that we learned the fates of Brooks Wheelan, Noël Wells and John Milhiser so early, way back in July. I do wonder if Wheelan forced NBC’s hand a little bit on those announcements by broadcasting that he was off the show via his Twitter account. The names may have been a surprise, but it wasn’t shocking that something was going to change on ‘Saturday Night Live’ this season as we enter the show’s 40th season.
