Director Neill Blomkamp created two distinctive sci-fi worlds in his freshman effort, 'District 9,' and more recently in 'Elysium.' For his next film, 'Chappie,' he's reuniting with Sharlto Copley once again for what the actor calls an "extremely original" tale.

While Sigourney Weaver said she'd return to the world of 'Avatar' in the coming sequels, the 'Aliens' ass-kicker has another sci-fi adventure on her hands with Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' follow-up 'Chappie.'

Though Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' didn't exactly hit a home run at the box office this summer, the director is already working on his follow-up film: a sci-fi comedy called 'Chappie.' Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley will star alongside androgynous South African music duo Die Antwoord in the film, which has just added mega-star Hugh Jackman to the cast.

While it took Neill Blomkamp four years to follow up 2009's 'District 9' with this year's 'Elysium,' he's not going to wait as long for his third feature. 'Chappie,' which will star Sharlto Copley, is now set to be released on March 27, 2015.

With the $30 million opening weekend for 'Elysium,' it looks like audiences are still very much on board the Neill Blomkamp train. It's surely no coincidence that Sony waited until this moment to announce that they've signed on to the director's next film, a science fiction story called 'Chappie.'

Though Neill Blomkamp's 'Elysium' has yet to hit theaters, he's already hard at work on his follow-up, 'Chappie.' Blomkamp regular Sharlto Copley has already joined the cast, but now Dev Patel is in talks to play the film's lead.

Sharlto Copley and Neill Blomkamp have worked together for years, and it looks like they will continue to as Copley has recently revealed he will be the lead in Blomkamp's next film 'Chappie.'
