Creator Don Mancini had shockingly different plans for Chucky in his original script. He discussed them at a recent anniversary screening for the film.
The only thing worse than evil clowns in the things-that-kids-are-supposed-to-like-but-are-actually-terrified-of genre is evil dolls, and the Child’s Play series pretty much has that one on lock. A few months ago we got our first look at the latest installment, Cult of Chucky, which promises even more scares from that orange-haired, rosy-cheeked bringer of terror. The good news is: you can stream it on Netflix next month.
As The Conjuring’s demonically possessed plaything Annabelle gains in popularity, it’s in murder-doll Chucky’s best interest to get back in the public eye and remind us of who’s the real top dog. Maybe Annabelle’s been stronger at the box-office as of late, but put the two toys mano-a-plastic-mano? Not even a fair fight. Chucky’s simply more sadistic; he really and truly hates people and loves killing them. That quality of violence alone sets his tiny head and tiny shoulders above the rest. In case anyone needed a refresher, we now have the Cult of Chucky trailer.
It looks like we're getting that new 'Child's Play' sequel after all, as production on 'Curse of Chucky' has begun whether you like it or not. Brad Dourif returns to voice the creepy ginger-haired doll in the sixth film of the franchise.
By horror-franchise standards, the ‘Child’s Play’ series is still just a kid (pun intended). I mean, how many ‘Friday the 13th’ and Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies do we have at this point? Seventy-five? Eighty? We’ve lost count. So Chucky has some catching up to do, and according to Universal, he’s getting right on it.
