It’s getting to be that time of year, and The CW is going all-in with its formal renewals. Good news has arrived for fans of Black Lightning, Arrow, Flash, Riverdale, Supernatural and more, but who got left in the post-apocalyptic cold?
The “Crazy” in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been a point of contention from the series’ start, but Season 3 is looking awfully Fatal Attraction. Rebecca Bunch is a woman scorned in the first teaser, and no pretzel is safe.
In the Golden Age of television — or Peak TV, or “oh god, please stop, I have enough to watch already” — shows aren’t just more cinematic, they’re offering us more of everything. That includes more sex scenes, which have become increasingly prevalent, revealing, daring and yes, even artful, reinforcing the notion that TV has become more like film. We recently chose the 25 best movie sex scenes of the last 25 years, and with the smaller screen’s growing resemblance to its big screen brethren, we thought it only right to do the same for television. We also assumed that making a list of the 25 best TV sex scenes of the last 20 years would be far easier and much less surprising. Spoiler alert: We were wrong.
Just when you thought network TV was on break for the summer, it’s time to start filling your calendar. The CW has declared its October premiere week, setting returns for Supergirl, Flash and the other DC dramas, along with Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and two newbies.
For all we’ve seen of this week’s Flash and Supergirl musical “Duet,” early promos have been notably devoid of actual singing. That all changes with the help of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star Rachel Bloom, as a new clip sees Barry and Kara becoming “Super Friends” with our first original song.
So long as Supergirl and The Flash were going to be flexing their pipes for a musical duet, The CW would naturally want to keep things in the family, right? Yes, the musical stylings of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend will be present in the crossover event, as Rachel Bloom contributes a ‘Super’ song.
Lest you think the reign of the Super-s at The CW was anywhere close to ending, the network passed out a generous round of renewals on Sunday, Not only is the DC foursome of Arrow, Flash, Supergirl and Legends renewed for new seasons, but so too will Supernatural return, among others.
Once upon a time, The CW’s Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had been set up as a half-hour Showtime pilot, chock-full of all the NSFW humor that Rachel Bloom was known for, and now that bleeds through CW standards. Don’t take our word for it, though, see for yourself in the full 18+ gag reel for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s first season.
Most of The CW’s fall 2016 offerings have premiered by now, save for one last fan-favorite return this coming Friday with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The Emmy and Golden Globe-winner kicks off Season 2 with a brand-new theme and a Beyonce-inspired number that’s already stuck in your head, before you even listen.
