Damage Control

After the Avengers defeat the bad guys and the credits roll, who cleans up the mess? Who clears the debris, sweeps up the scraps, and collects all those bits and pieces of alien / mystical / foreign objects — you know, the stuff pedestrians probably shouldn’t get their hands on? Whether you’re a casual or more committed fan of the Marvel universe (or superheroes in general), you’ve likely pondered this very question. Spider-Man: Homecoming will finally give us an answer.

ABC notably pumped Marvel’s brakes this past year, to decline additional Agent Carter, an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff or any other series, but the next could pick up in only a matter of weeks. ABC execs say they’ll meet with Marvel in a few weeks’ time to discuss their options toward a series “we all feel is as creatively strong as it can be.”

Say what you will about a lacking connections between Marvel’s various live-action properties, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Netflix’s Daredevil have consistently managed to work in winking references to one another. The other day saw John Ridley confirming that his long-developing Marvel TV series was still in the mix, even as no one knows what, or when the project represents. And even as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. gears up for a spinoff, it seems another live-action comedy behind Marvel’s Damage Control may be in contention for the ever-expanding universe.

Back in August, the announcement of NBC’s Powerless TV series set in the DC universe had comic fans crying afoul of a similar premise to Marvel’s Damage Control comics. Well, good news! Marvel has officially one-upped its rival with intent to develop Damage Control as a live-action comedy on ABC.
