Don’t think a Stranger Things lawsuit will turn the Duffer brothers upside down. The pair have responded to allegations the breakout Netflix drama was cribbed from a Montauk short, calling the lawsuit “completely meritless.”

Stranger Things wears many influences on its sleeve, but one in particular may land it in hot water. Creators Ross and Matt Duffer now face a lawsuit claiming Stranger Things is derived from short film Montauk, whose creator claims to have pitched them the project in 2014.

New rumors have emerged around Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer, as a crew member departed the series alleging the two “seek out and verbally abuse women” on-set. The Duffers have now responded, claiming the reports “mischaracterize our set.”

We haven’t reached the midpoint of Stranger Things just yet, so there’s no way creators would jump ship now, right? That’s exactly the rumor going around with executive producers Ross and Matt Duffer, but sources already indicate the claim may have been turned upside down.

The cast of Stranger Things dealt with plenty of adult situations in Season 1, but little that would earn an R-rating. Season 2 may be a different beast, as the Duffers reveal its pint-sized stars are “much more foulmouthed” this time around, and even petitioned Netflix to keep it that way.
