Dom, how could you?!?

Vin Diesel quickly rose through the ranks of Hollywood after Steven Spielberg cast him in a small role in his war film Saving Private Ryan. But did you know Spielberg hired Diesel after admiring his work in a short film that Diesel himself wrote and directed? The film, titled Multi-Facial, was shot in three days for just $3,000, and starred Diesel in a loosely autobiographical story about his struggles in the film industry. The short was widely acclaimed, and even played the Cannes Film Festival. That’s just one of the facts featured in the newest episode of You Think You Know Movies!

Tracking movie trailer views can’t be an easy task, as you have to somehow combine everything from TV views to YouTube views to all-kinds-of-other-places views and calculate some sort of number from all of that. Previously, the record has been held by The Force Awakens, which was dethroned by Fifty Shades Darker earlier this fall, which was then whipped by the live-action Beauty and the Beast trailer (probably the most anticipated live-action Disney movie ever). Now, The Fate of the Furious is king, with 139 million views in its first 24 hours, more than 10 million more than Beauty and the Beast.

Sometimes you discover something in your life that you didn’t know you needed until you finally have it. Take, for example, the brand new trailer for The Fate of the Furious. If you’d made me list the 100 different things I want from an action movie, I never would have thought to request a scene where a submarine chases a fleet of vehicles across an ice-field. Now that I’ve seen the first trailer for the film, I kind of wish every action movie was just that scene for ninety minutes.

This has been a pretty busy week for fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise. Not only did we get an official title for the eight film in the series, The Fate of the Furious  —  which, for inexplicable reasons that continue to haunt the internet, did not spell ‘fate’ as ‘f8’  —  we also got our first glimpse at new footage courtesy of a trailer tease and promises of a full theatrical trailer on Sunday evening.

Years ago, when The Fast and Furious franchise first began, there’s no way we could’ve fathomed the myriad ways Universal would rework the words “fast” and “furious” into sequel titles. “No,” they said, “We will not simply call these movies The Fast and the Furious 1 - 8. We are creatives!” That creativity peaked with 2 Fast 2 Furious, (prayer emoji hands for whoever originally came up with that one), then along the way they sort of lost their mojo. But now, finally, with the eight installment we’re back on track with a brand new f-word added to the title. So long “fast,” this movie is all about fate!

Dwayne Johnson is a big man in every sense of the word. Physically, he’s a small planet, giving the moon a run for its money as the most important celestial body to be caught in Earth’s orbit. His personality and spirit, though, are even bigger. You rarely if ever hear stories about Johnson losing his cool or brushing off a fan, choosing instead to spend every waking minute of every waking day reminding us that movie stars do still exist in 2016.

Back when he was doing press rounds for 2015’s Furious 7, Vin Diesel made some pretty bold statements about the movie deserving to be nominated for an Academy Award (and let’s be real, the only thing more emotional last year than the final minutes of Furious 7 was, maybe, Carol). It, of course, wasn’t, which should come as no surprise, even though it was a critical and box office success, but that hasn’t stopped our buddy Vin, who is now saying that the next film in the franchise, Fast 8, should be Oscar-worthy.

Throughout the production of Fast 8, the cast and crew of the upcoming Fast and the Furious sequel have used their Fridays as a time to share some pretty great photos and video on the movie’s Facebook page. Some of these posts have been behind-the-scenes videos of a shot in progress; others have been footage of the cast involved in charity work in the various countries they have visited. Each post not only suggests the size and scale of the movie, but the impact of the film series on the entire world.

Stop what you’re doing; there has been a major development in #CandyAssGate. The ‘Fast 8' beef ignited by Dwayne Johnson earlier this week has gotten more intense now that Tyrese Gibson has thrown himself into the hot fire of candy ass drama. Gibson has taken a side in what appears to be a war between Johnson and Diesel.
