‘Friday the 13th’ Reboot to Give Jason a New Origin Story
By now, Jason Voorhees’ origin story has become as redundant and exhausting as the murder of Thomas and Martha Wayne. He was a kid with a physical abnormality who drowned because some careless teenage camp counselors were too busy gettin’ busy and smoking pot. We get it. But apparently we don’t get it enough because that long-developing Friday the 13th reboot is going to rehash Jason’s origins yet again — this time revealing even more needless information about the slasher boogeyman’s family history.

‘Friday the 13th’ Sequel Loses Director, Gets Another Writer
The long-developing and repeatedly-delayed Friday the 13th sequel has undergone a couple of changes, again: this time out, the (allegedly) upcoming installment in the classic horror franchise has lost its director, but it's gained a tiny piece of our optimism in hiring Prisoners screenwriter Aaron Guzikowski — a guy who knows a little something about cinematic brutality.

New ‘Friday the 13th’ Movie Pushed Back to 2017
Platinum Dunes producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form have been developing a new Friday the 13th sequel / reboot for several years now, with V/H/S director David Bruckner attached to direct since last spring. Back in February, Fuller seemed more optimistic than ever, with Paramount announcing a May 13, 2016 release date and hiring Hannibal series scribe Nick Antosca to pen the latest draft of the screenplay. But the latest update is a bit of a pessimistic one, as Paramount has once again pushed the project back, delaying it to 2017.

In the tradition of ScreenCrush series like You Think You Know Movies and You Think You Know TV comes a new YouTube series: Top Five! Each week (or so; we’ve got a lot of other stuff going on), ScreenCrush editor and critic Matt Singer will count down a particular topic from the world of movies (and probably write these introductory posts in the third person).

The actor who played Jason Voorhees in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Ted White, said that while he was working with Corey Feldman on the movie, young Corey was so annoying, he actually wanted to kill him in real life. That’s just one of the facts packed into the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies, which looks at the not-at-all final chapter of the Friday the 13th franchise with Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter!

Jason Voorhees’ Friday the 13th future has proven a bit difficult to hack through, between multiple reboots of style and story, and even a Crystal Lake Chronicles TV series in development. Things may have cleared on the TV side at least, as The CW is apparently developing a more straight-forward adaptation of Friday the 13th.

A new Friday the 13th sequel has been in the works for a long while now with The Signal director David Bruckner attached to direct. We only recently began to hear more about the upcoming project via producer Brad Fuller, who’s been assuring fans that yes, this sequel is definitely, finally happening. To make us a little optimistic about the new installment, Hannibal writer Nick Antosca has been hired to pen the screenplay.

A Friday the 13th sequel has been in development ever since Platinum Dunes’ remake hit theaters in 2009. After Paramount dated and rescheduled (and rescheduled) the upcoming sequel, we finally appear to have a new Friday the 13th film hitting theaters in 2016 — the thing is, we haven’t heard much about it. Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller has revealed new details today — on Friday the 13th, naturally — about the upcoming sequel, why it’s taken so long and what we might expect from the project.

'Rings' Gets a Release Date, 'Paranormal Activity' Delayed
In a move that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, Paramount has delayed the release of ‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’ yet again. Meanwhile, the studio is also mixing up their horror schedule a bit, announcing an official release date for ‘The Ring’ reboot, ‘Rings,’ and moving up the release of their new ‘Friday the 13th’ installment. Given that the shifting of ‘Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension’ has become something of a running joke, we wouldn’t be shocked if the date changes at least a few more times before this thing finally hits theaters—if it ever does.
