It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia came under surprising scrutiny for a series renewed for two more seasons, once series star Glenn Howerton confirmed a potential departure. Now, NBC comedy A.P. Bio has been picked up to series, likely guaranteeing Dennis will be absent from Paddy’s Pub.

The Always Sunny gang managed to power through a solid twelve years on FX and FXX, so it wasn’t any surprise star Glenn Howerton opted for a small break before the next two. That said, we may be bereft of Sunny all through 2018, as star Kaitlin Olson confirms the Paddy’s Pub gang will take a pre-Season 13 hiatus.

FXX’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has impressively never fatigued to the point of cancellation, even extending beyond Season 12 to a record-setting 13 and 14. The cast has even managed to squeeze in additional projects without disrupting the series, but the Season 12 exit of Dennis may be more permanent for Glenn Howerton than we expected.

After twelve years on the air, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia knows how to play its well-honed characterizations with a little topical flair.
